It gives me great pleasure to bring out the second issue of the International Journal of Microwave and Optical Technology (IJMOT). My sincere apologies for delay in publishing the second issue due to several reasons. This is an Special Issue devoted to the papers presented in the 10th International Symposium on Microwave and Optical Technology (ISMOT-2005) held in Fukuoka, Japan from August 22-25, 2005 under the leadership of Professor Kiyotoshi Yasumoto of Kyushu University. This special issue has been published in two parts. Parts I contains the papers on: Transmission Lines and Waveguides; Microwave Circuits; Microwave Filters; Microwave Integrated Circuits; Solid State Devices; Metamaterials; Microwave Imaging; Millimeter and Submillimeter Waves; Microwave and Optical Materials while Part II contains the papers on: Optical Communications; Optical Waveguides; Photonics Crystals; Communication Systems; Antenna and Related Topics; Scattering and Diffraction; Periodic Structures and Gratings. |

I am very thankful to Professor Yasumoto who was kind enough to accept my invitation to be the Guest Editor for this special issue. Due to his close association with IJMOT and ISMOT from the inception, he has devoted long hours not only for the success of these activities but also for bringing out the special issue in its final format.
Again, the continued advice, support and encouragement by the Editorial Advisory Board Members and the Associate Editors are highly appreciated. They are the backbone of this young journal and without their support we can’t even imagine the publication of any issue.
My special thanks to our web manager Mr. Anand Reddy for his continued efforts for improving the IJMOT website and for giving the final shape to this special issue. I would also like to thank my graduate students Sivakumar Lanka and Aditya Ambardekar for their help in the editing work at a short notice.
