About Kiyotoshi Yasumoto It has been just one year since the 10th International Symposium on Microwave and Optical Technology (ISMOT-2005) was successfully concluded in Fukuoka, Japan from August 22-25, 2005. On behalf of the Technical Program Committee of ISMOT-2005, it is my great honor and pleasure to announce the publication of the IJMOT Special Issue consisting of ISMOT-2005 papers. The authors of the papers which were accepted after review and presented in the ISMOT-2005 have been invited to submit the updated version of papers for this special issue. Based on the IJMOT publication guidelines, we have accepted the submission of total 122 papers which cover a wide range of up-to-date topics in microwave and optical technology.
The accepted papers have been categorized into 16 topics related to microwaves and millimeter-waves, microwave photonics, optical communications, communication systems, antennas and propagation, and electromagnetic theory. The IJMOT is a new and unique online international journal which intends to create a closer connection between microwaves and optical technologies. I hope that the publication of this special issue will bring the attention of the related communities to the existing and potential links between both technologies.

I am very grateful to Prof. Banmali S. Rawat, Editor-in-Chief, IJMOT for providing us the second issue of IJMOT for the ISMOT-2005 papers. I am also very thankful to the members of the Technical Program Committee of ISMOT-2005 for their hard reviewing work. Especially the help rendered by Prof. Mitsuhiro Yokota, Dr. Tsuyoshi Matsuoka, Dr. Mitsuo Taguchi, Dr. Hiroshi Maeda, Dr. Koki Watanabe, and Dr. Hongting Jia in editing work are highly appreciated.

Finally I would like to express my special thanks to IJMOT Web Manager Mr. Anand Reddy who has provided continuous support, guidance and encouragement for the realization of this special issue.
