TOPIC: Periodic Structures and Gratings
Manuscript Title:  Analysis of Scattering Characteristics of Diffraction Gratings Using Hybrid Trefftz FEM
Manuscript Id: IJMOT-2006-6-75
Abstract:  A formulation based on a hybrid variational principle for plane wave scattering problems of an infinite periodic grating is presented. Scattering characteristics of lossless dielectric gratings and lossy metallic gratings are computed and the validity and usefulness of this method are confirmed.

Manuscript Title:  Magneto-optical polar-Kerr-effect spectroscopy on 2D-periodic subwavelength arrays of magnetic dots
Manuscript Id: IJMOT-2006-6-157
Abstract:  Polar magneto-optical (MO) Kerr effect (PMOKE) spectra are analyzed in the visible and near-UV range on hypothetical bi-periodic arrays of subwavelength square and circular dots patterned in ultra-thin Au/Co/Au sandwiches on quartz substrates. A rigorous coupled-wave approach used for calculation is described in detail, providing very fast convergence of the MO ellipsometric parameters in the entire spectral range. The simulations of the selected model cases demonstrate remarkable sensitivity of PMOKE spectroscopy to all the adjusted array parameters as well as to the shape of the array elements. The results show new potentialities of the MO spectroscopic scatterometry in the metrology of magnetic nanostructures in spin electronics and recording technologies.

Manuscript Title:  Total Reflection Ellipsometry of Lamellar Gratings
Manuscript Id: IJMOT-2006-6-166
Abstract:  The total internal reflection ellipsometry on the base of coupling prism is described. The problem is solved by Fourier modal method applied using T-matrix algorithm to find diffraction response from multilayer system. Resulting values of ellipsometric parameters ∆ and ψ are studied at the incidence angle interval from 0 to 90 deg for dielectric and metallic lamellar systems. The material influences of the thin air gap thickness are discussed, too.

Manuscript Title:  Coupled Mode Analysis of Thin Cladding Fiber Bragg Grating Utilizing Acoustically Induced Superstructure Modulation
Manuscript Id: IJMOT-2006-7-204
Abstract:  Coupled mode equations modeling acoustically induced fiber Bragg grating (FBG) in a thin cladding is solved by a simple mathematical formulation. Transmission and reflection spectra of propagating core mode are calculated theoretically and evaluated numerically for different values of acoustically induced coupling coefficient. Co-directional and contra-directional coupling induced by FBG and superstructure modulation, and the relationship between propagating modes through core and cladding have been discussed.
