                                                 HISTORY OF ISRAMT AND IJMOT

The ISRAMT is a non profit corporation registered in the State of Nevada. Originally this acronym was used to denote the “International Symposium on Recent Advances in Microwave Technology” started in the University of North Dakota, Grand Forks, ND, USA in 1986. On the demand of the participants of the first conference, it was decided to organize this conference every two years starting in 1989 in Beijing, China. During Beijing conference a formal shape to ISRAMT was given by establishing a formal International Advisory Committee under the leadership Prof. Banmali S. Rawat of the University of Nevada, Reno, NV, USA. The subsequent conferences have been held in Reno, USA (1991), New Delhi, India (1993), Kiev, Ukraine (1995), Beijing, China (1997) and Málaga, Spain (1999). The conference was registered in the State of Nevada by the name of ISRAMT in 1996. In 2000, with the start of 21st century and new millennium the conference was renamed to “International Symposium on Microwave and Optical Technology (ISMOT)” to incorporate the closely related and emerging optical technology area. However, the registered name still remained as ISRAMT as a parent name. The first conference under ISMOT name was held in Montreal, Canada in 2001. The last ISMOT was held in Ostrava, Czech Republic in 2003 and some future ISMOT conferences are scheduled to be held in Fukuoka, Japan (2005); Brest, France (2007); and Mumbai, India in 2009. The main objective of this conference has been the exchange of knowledge, research work and stimulating ideas among microwave and optical community of the world in a very congenial and informal manner by spending 4-5 days together. This objective has always been achieved by keeping the size of the conference small and moving the conference in different countries.

The main objective of ISRAMT as a parent body is to organize international conferences, publish research and technical papers in the form of conference proceedings, journals and books to establish close network among microwave/opitcal scientists, engineers and researchers all over the world for the benefit of microwave/optical community and the public at large. So far the organization of ISMOT has been the only activity under ISRAMT but starting 2005 another important activity is going to be added in the form of a new journal by the name of “International Journal of Microwave and Optical Technology (IJMOT)”. In the beginning it will be a quarterly publication but within a due course of time it will be published monthly. The subscription of the journal has been kept quite low so that most of the microwave/optical community all over the world can be benefited through this new journal.
